EDSPHCDA and Partners Host Press Briefing on Human Papillomavirus Vaccination (HPVV) Campaign in Benin City.

24th May 2024, the Executive Secretary, Edo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (EDSPHCDA), Dr Omosigho Izedonmwen held a press briefing in Benin City to speak on the intention of commencing the Human Papillomavirus Vaccination campaign across the 18 LGAs from 27th May 2024, in Edo State for girls aged 9-14years to protect them from Cervical cancer.

Dr. Izedonmwen stated that “the vaccination exercise involves administering a single intramuscular (IM) vaccine shot to the eligible girls, while  detailing the extensive outreach plan, which includes visits to schools, churches, mosques, markets, motor parks, and busy junctions to ensure that the vaccine reaches all eligible girls.

Expressing gratitude for the collaborative efforts of the technical partners, Dr. Izedonmwen commended their tireless work in ensuring the smooth launch of the program. He announced that the official flag-off of the HPV vaccination campaign will take place at Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City at 10:00 AM. He urged parents to ensure their eligible children receive the HPV vaccine, emphasizing the importance of protecting them against cervical cancer for a healthier Edo State. Finally, Dr. Izedonmwen commended the Federal and State Government, along with the partners, for making the vaccine freely available. “This initiative, which previously required payment, is now accessible to all eligible girls regardless of social status, this is indeed a giant leap from where we are coming from”.
