In a move to safeguard the lives of young girls, the Edo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (EDSPHCDA) in collaboration with John Snow Incorporated organized a training for stakeholders in the Education sector of the State on the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine introduction into routine immunization.
The training was held at JOOPSA on the 9th of May, 2024 with the aim to equip education stakeholders in Edo State with crucial information about the HPV vaccine as Edo State is set to commence the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine introduction into routine immunization on the 27th of May, 2024 for girls aged 9 to 14 years of age.
Mr. Ahmed M. Naiya, a Senior Technical Advisor from John Snow Incorporated reiterated the importance of myths and misinformation surrounding vaccines, Mr. Naiya urged the Education Stakeholders to encourage parents to take advantage of the opportunity to vaccinate their girls aged 9 to 14 years to protect them against cervical cancer while stressing that the HPV vaccine is free, safe and very effective.
The training garnered participation from stakeholders from John Snow Incorporated, Representatives of Education Sector in Edo State, and Partners from the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, WHO, UNICEF as well as Sydani Group.
