Edo State and Partners Holds Strategic Meeting to Prepare for 2026 Measles-Rubella Vaccination Campaign.

The Edo State Primary Health Care Development Agency (EDSPHCDA), in collaboration with UNICEF and other development partners, held an engagement meeting on January 5th, 2026, with Local Government Chairmen and Health Educators across all 18 LGAs. The meeting took place at John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Academy (JOOPSA) with the aim of strengthening the grassroots coordination in preparation for the 2026 Measles-Rubella (MR) Vaccination Catch-Up Campaign.

Among the attendees were the LGA Chairmen, Health Educators, and representatives from UNICEF, IVAC, WHO, JSI, and other implementing partners, as well as officials from the NPHCDA and EDSPHCDA.

Representing the Executive Secretary, EDSPHCDA Dr. Coulson Oahimire was the
Director, Disease Control and Immunization EDSPHCDA, Dr Efeomon Eseigbe who delivered the welcome remarks on behalf of the Executive Secretary. He further expressed gratitude for the presence of the Honourable Chairmen, despite their busy schedules and highlighted the global and national impact of measles and rubella, stressing that vaccination is the most effective way to prevent these diseases.

Mrs. Irene Uabor, the State Health Educator, led the discussion on advocacy, communication, and social mobilization activities at both the state and LGA levels while the State Coordinator for NPHCDA Mr. Osawe Lawani emphasized the national support for the state’s efforts in preparing for the Measles-Rubella vaccination campaign and called for action at the LGA level, urging the Chairmen to ensure the successful implementation of the Measles-Rubella (MR) campaign.

The Chairmen pledged their support for mobilization efforts, including ensuring security and managing local logistics for the campaign. Health Educators committed to intensifying awareness efforts, particularly in hard-to-reach areas, while the partners addressed the importance of real-time data tracking and accountability.

A key highlight of the meeting was the presentation of 10-inch portable megaphone speakers by the Honourable Chairmen to the Health Educators on behalf of the State Government and UNICEF to support the advocacy, communication, and social mobilization for the Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccination campaign in Edo.
