

The Edo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (EDSPHCDA) recently carried out a medical staff verification exercise from Monday, February 9th to Friday, February 13th, 2026, across all three senatorial districts of Edo State. The goal of the exercise was to ensure that all medical staff are properly licensed and meet professional standards.
The verification exercise covered various healthcare professionals, including medical laboratory scientists, medical laboratory technicians, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, medical records officers, medical records technicians, junior community health extension workers, community health technicians and community health workers.
The Acting Director of Administration and Supplies, Mrs. Priscillia Ekoh, represented the Executive Secretary, EDSPHCDA, Dr. Coulson Oahimire Osoikhia, and coordinated the verification in Edo South. She was assisted by Mr. Segun Bello, Admin Officer EDSPHCDA. Mrs. Ekoh stated that “the aim of the exercise was to verify the authenticity of medical staff certifications, encourage license renewals, and ensure qualified staff are the ones delivering services.” This is part of the Agency’s efforts to fight against quackery in the healthcare system.”
The verification process took place as follows: In Edo South, the exercise was conducted on Monday, February 9th, 2026, at the John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Academy (JOOPSA), coordinated by Mr. Segun Bello, EDSPHCDA Admin Officer, and Acting Director of Administration EDSPHCDA, Mrs. Priscilla Ekoh.
In Edo Central, the exercise took place on Wednesday, February 11th, 2026, at Irrua Secretariat, coordinated by Mr. Segun Bello, Admin Officer EDSPHCDA, and Dr. Austin Okosun. Medical Officer of Health, Esan Central.
Finally, in Edo North, the screening continued on Friday, February 13th, 2026, at Auchi Secretariat, coordinated by Mr. Segun Bello, Admin Officer EDSPHCDA and Dr. Paul Isebeme, Medical Officer of Health, Etsako West (Edo North).
Key stakeholders present at the exercise included the representatives of the National Association of Community Health Practitioners of Nigeria (NACHPN) Edo State Chapter, the Health Records Officers Registration Board of Nigeria, the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria, Edo State, the Director of Essential Drugs and Logistics, Pharmacist Valentine Eruaga, EDSPHCDA, and the Department of State Security Services, who provided security during the event.
