A team of officials from the World Bank, the National Project Implementation Unit (NPIU), and the Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH) visited Edo State for an Implementation Support Mission for the IMPACT PROJECT.

One of the key objectives of the visit was to assess the progress of the renovation project at Oghede PHC, evaluate whether it is meeting its goals, identify any challenges, and provide technical support or guidance to ensure its successful completion. Oghede Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC) is one of 61 health facilities being upgraded under the IMPACT Project, which is supported by the World Bank.

On Thursday, February 19th, 2026, the Honorable Commissioner for Health in Edo State, Dr. Cyril Oshiomhole, along with other key officials, conducted a field visit to Oghede PHC.
The officials on the visit included the Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, Dr. Andrew Iyamu; EDSPHCDA Board Chairman, Dr. Odiase Ehiabhi; Executive Secretary, EDSPHCDA, Dr. Coulson Oahimire Osoikhia; Permanent Secretary, Edo State Ministry of Health, Dr. Paul Eighemhenrio; the Executive Secretary, Edo State Drug Management Agency, Hon. Pharm. Mrs. Kenny Okojie; the Task Team Lead (TTL) of the World Bank IMPACT Project, Dr. Onoriode Ezire, and his team; the National Project Manager for the IMPACT Project, Dr. Amina Abdul-one; as well as Mr. Solomon Madukwe, a representative from FMOH, among other key stakeholders.

They were received by the Officer in Charge (OIC), Mrs. Helen Giegbefumwen, who guided them on a tour of the facility.

During the visit, the Honorable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Cyril Adams Oshiomhole, stated, “Today, we are conducting a joint assessment of Oghede PHC, evaluating service delivery, infrastructure, data management, staffing, and patient patronage. While the facility is in good condition, we observed that patient patronage is low. I urge the people living within the Oghede community and its environs to visit Oghede PHC. Services such as normal delivery, ante-natal care, immunization, health education, malaria testing and treatment, and more are free under the IMPACT Project.”

Dr. Onoriode Ezire, the TTL for the World Bank IMPACT PROJECT, shared during an interview with the press, “Out of the 61 facilities earmarked for renovation, 56 have been completed and are in use. We are hopeful that these completed facilities will expand access to quality healthcare in Edo. We are impressed with the quality of work we’ve seen at Oghede PHC. We’ve visited many states, and I can confidently say that the quality of work here is among the highest. I encourage the people of Edo to come and utilize Oghede facility.”

Adding to the discussion, Dr. Coulson Oahimire Osoikhia, the Executive Secretary, EDSPHCDA, expressed satisfaction with the progress and the high quality of work completed so far at Oghede PHC. He noted that, according to the World Bank officials, the facility met the required standards. He also extended his gratitude to the Executive Governor of Edo State, His Excellency Senator Monday Okphebholo, the World Bank, FMOH, and NPHCDA for their continued support of Primary Healthcare under the IMPACT PROJECT.

The TTL of the World Bank IMPACT PROJECT and his team also held a one-on-one session with the Project Manager of the IMPACT Project in Edo State, Dr. Idemudia Osayomore, and the Project Implementation Unit to discuss the progress made so far, the challenges faced, and the way forward.
