EDSPHCDA Organizes Capacity-Building Communication Training in Benin City to Enhance PHC Visibility Across 18 LGAs.

From Monday, February 10, 2025, to Friday, February 12, 2025, the Edo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (EDSPHCDA) conducted a capacity-building communication training for staff to enhance the visibility of primary healthcare at the grassroot level.

The training, held at El Classico Royal Hotel in Benin City, was attended by Assistant Health Education Officers, Staff and Management of EDSPHCDA.

The goal was to equip participants with the skills to showcase primary healthcare activities effectively at the headquarters and the 18 LGAs.

Speaking at the event, the Acting Executive Secretary, EDSPHCDA, Mr. Sunday Osayande, emphasized the importance of communication in primary healthcare. He encouraged participants to take the training seriously, as it would help them share essential updates on the agency’s activities with the public.

The Head of the Public Relations Unit, EDSPHCDA, Mrs. Nene Olaye, noted that media attention had primarily been focused on the headquarters in Benin City. She explained that the training aimed to expand visibility beyond the state capital, ensuring that the public is informed about primary healthcare activities across the  18 LGAs.

To achieve this, the officers were trained in communication skills, news reporting, photography techniques, and writing captions. Images, captions from events, programs and activities from all the LGAs will be sent to the state office for news development before being shared on various media platforms, including the Agency’s website, social media pages, and blog to expand the reach of PHC news across the 18 LGAs.

The training was facilitated by experienced media professionals in Edo State, including Mr. Terry Isaacs Idahor, Assistant General Manager Programs for Edo State Broadcasting Services (EBS), and Mr. Edward Oseghe, The Nigerian Observer, Sports Editor.

Participants received training in key areas such as mobile journalism, field reporting, strategic information management, effective healthcare communication, and coordinating news reports from LGAs to the state office for dissemination across media channels. The initiative aims to make primary healthcare activities across Edo State more visible to the public.
