July 2026 was a memorable month for health workers in Edo State, following the approval of the domestication and implementation of the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) and the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) for healthcare workers across the state by His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo.
This landmark achievement brought joy and renewed hope to health workers, reflecting the Governor’s commitment to improving their welfare and recognizing their invaluable contributions to the healthcare system.
This success would not have been possible without the dedication, resilience, and leadership of the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN). We proudly celebrate our MHWUN President, Comrade Ogbeide O. Osagie, and Vice President, Comrade Jepherson Oviawe, and the entire leadership team for their commitment and tireless efforts in ensuring that the voices of health workers were heard. May history remember your service and sacrifice.
We also appreciate and acknowledge the strong collaboration between MHWUN and its sister unions, including the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), and the Medical and Dental Consultants’ Association of Nigeria (MDCAN). Their united efforts ensured that all categories of healthcare professionals benefited from the implementation of the appropriate salary structures.
Our sincere appreciation goes to the leaders of MHWUN, NANNM, ARD, and MDCAN across Edo State for their collective efforts and commitment.
Special recognition goes to the Edo State MHWUN leadership, headed by Comrade Ogbeide Osagie and Comrade Jepherson Oviawe, as well as the Edo State Primary Health Care Development Agency (EDSPHCDA) MHWUN leadership, led by Mrs. Winifred Idele and her team, for their dedication and support throughout the process.
Indeed, health workers across Edo State salute and appreciate everyone whose commitment and collaboration made the successful domestication and implementation of CONHESS and CONMESS a reality. This achievement is a victory for all health workers and a significant step towards strengthening the state’s healthcare system.
