On April 25, 2025, the Edo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (EDSPHCDA) and its partners collaborated to commemorate “World Malaria Day 2025.”
World Malaria Day is observed annually on April 25.
This year’s theme, “Malaria Ends with Us: Reinvest, Reimagine, and Reignite,” highlights the shared responsibility in ending malaria. It calls for a stronger commitment to invest in malaria prevention, explore new solutions, and renew global efforts to combat the disease.
To mark the day, a Press Briefing was held by the Executive Secretary, EDSPHCDA Dr. Coulson Oahimire Osoikhia, at his office on Ezoti Street, Benin City at 9:30 am.

In his words, “we owe much of our progress to the leadership of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Edo State, Mr Monday Okpebholo. Under his leadership, Edo State has seen improvements in healthcare, with free malaria treatments, test kits, and other essential medical supplies provided at the facilities, which has improved access to malaria prevention and treatment. His focus on upgrading primary health centres and hiring skilled health workers has helped improve care, especially in remote areas, he added.
He also expressed gratitude to Dr. Cyril Oshiomole, Edo State Honourable Commissioner for Health, whose leadership has brought positive changes to healthcare in the state. His efforts in bringing people together to fight malaria have made a big difference. Dr Coulson commended.
Finally, the Executive Secretary thanked development partners, including the World Health Organisation (WHO) and other organisations, for their support as well as guidance in improving the health of Edo people.
To celebrate the day, free malaria screening, testing, and consultations was conducted at primary healthcare centres.
